Found early in the New Londo Ruins, on a corpse between the Firelink Shrine elevator and the first bridge leading to the rest of the ruins. As with other thrusting swords, the Estoc can attack from behind a shield, making it useful defensively. The Estoc has the longest reach of all the thrusting swords; in addition, it has a slashing-like attack that deals Regular Damage. The Estoc’s good reach makes it a flexible weapon. While the Estoc’s weak attack is slightly slower than those of the other rapiers, it still has a relatively good attack speed. Although the in-game stat menus show the Estoc having a 100 critical rate (like most other weapons), the Estoc still benefits from a hidden bonus, allowing it to deal relatively high damage with ripostes and backstabs. The Estoc has unusually high non-critical damage for a thrusting sword. The Estoc’s greatest weakness lies in its relatively sluggish weak attack combos, making it harder to really rack up damage against nimble opponents. It can chain from weak attacks to a strong attack, but not vice versa.

The Parrying Dagger is found on a corpse in the New Londo Ruins. The corpse is located directly after the first flight of spiral stairs. There is a Ghost inside the wall next to it, lying in ambush. Intended for wielding in the offhand, the Parrying Dagger’s parry animation is longer than that of most other shields and weapons, allowing a higher chance of parrying. The Parrying Dagger is an average dagger for use in the right hand slot, featuring high critical rates and low damage typical of the dagger class. The Parrying Dagger’s parry animation lasts just as many frames as the specialized parrying shields, such as the Target Shield; on the other hand, it cannot block, making it an inferior choice defensively.
